Pinner Bulletin

More developments in Pinner Shops

Who has been smashing shop window fronts in Bridge Street, and today I noticed that Cafe Nero in Love Lane had all it's front windows smashed?  They also ripped up a parking pole in Love Lane. What are the local police, or should I say national as the police station is not open that often, doing about this?

Bella Cafe now has a front on it.

The lovely cat that visits Barnados Shop was having a lovely snooze on the counter when I went in today.

Above may look like a scene from a science fiction film, but alas it is a trailer abandoned under the bridge in Chapel Lane

Now the snow has gone, and the ice has melted the ducks are back in the pond in Memorial park. The picture above with one of the drake ducks doing what they do best, ducking.  Also there is an unusual coloured duck, I assume male, with a white spot on a black body!  We also saw a Jay pecking in the undergrowth in the trees and bushes near the Chapel Lane exit from the Memorial Park.

This is a view of the pond in Memorial Park with some ice still to thaw, thankfully at the time of typing this things have greatly improved, all the wildfowl have returned.

Here are some pictures of the ducks today, they have all come out to enjoy the small amount of sunshine we have had.  We are so lucky that the wildfowl keeps returning to delight us all. Long may they return!

A new opticians has opened in Bridge Street.  It is next door to the Indian Restaurant with the unfortunate name of Titash !

In one of the mobile phone shops in Bridge Street, is this cute model of an android, the mascot of the excellent Android operating system used on some phones and tablet computers.  If  you want a cheap basic pink 7" tablet pop into Lidls before the £79.99 models sell out!

When I took these pictures of the George Pub I feared that is was going to close and be demolished, as there was planning permission for offices on the site, or at least I thought.  I have done a quick search on the Internet and have ascertained from the Wealdstone FC forum that it is due to be renovated.

News update 1/2/2013 The George is boarded up, and someone has put paint over every notice on the windows.  A small scratch reveals it has been sealed up by the landlord, possibly for non payment of rent. This could indeed be the end of this pub sadly

Here are pictures of the pub which used to be owned by Salters Brewery in Rickmansworth when it first opened.  My wife and I used to visit the put in the 70s after doing the household cleaning on a Friday Night. Whilst we cleaned we listened to Nicky Horne on Capital Radio with his rock show titled "Your Mother Wouldn't Like it". Nicky Horne still does a rock show, on Planet Rock on digital dab radio.

I
Finally who has been driving over the grass in Pinner Memorial Park?  If it is a council worker, or someone from Daisy's in the Park Cafe shame on you!

Snow and the front comes off Bella Cafe

Harrow and the Snow - my opinion

I rang up Harrow Council today and found out that they were not collecting our brown kitchen and garden waste bins this week.  This seems sensible in so much as they used the men to clear the backlog caused by Monday's snow.

The side roads in Pinner and Harrow are icy and slippery, the council has a policy that they only grit pavements in shopping areas and subways.  Old or young a fall on ice or snow can be fatal.  Harrow is going to have to do more for its 2% extra council tax.  Such a mean administration, I used to live in Hillingdon borough, and they have not increased the council tax for some years now.

I was going to Lidl today and by pure chance passed a rather dishevelled looking Bella Cafe in Bridge Street, I took the picture below. It will be interesting to see the new cafe frontage when it is installed.

The day after the snow

Harrow Council let the pedestrians of Pinner down, the pavements in Pinner shops, and footpaths in the memorial park were not gritted.  Fortunately today there was no ice, but beware on Sunday all the snow will turn to ice where it has begun to melt. Come on Harrow, you are going to put our council tax up this year, spend some money and save accidents!

I am not sure if I mentioned that the Kentucky Fried Chicken shop closed at the end of last year.  Health should improve, but there are other fast food outlets in Pinner, a little every now and then is fine!

Here is a picture of an abandoned chair in Love Lane, seen before the snow - more due on Sunday around the afternoon
Here are a selection of pictures taken today in the lovely memorial Park - top marks to whoever built the snowman!  When we returned about an hour later somebody had stolen the two one pence pieces which formed the eyes of the snowman, how mean!

Todays's observations and thoughts

We were in the High Street today at about 9.15.  Down the High Street at a rate of knots ran a very fit and muscular looking fox.  Mothers with babies and children in pushchairs seemed afraid of this.  Sadly the fox seemed more afraid of people, and disappeared up the gap next to Tops and Tails on the corner of Bridge Street and High Street.

The Picture below is not mine but this is a likeness from the worldwide web

This batch of pictures were taken before the snowy and cold phase of weather - they are feature Nower Hill, and houses with some intresting decorative tiles, on a par with those in Northwod.  Also at the end of this set of pictures, you can see Pinner Church coming out of it's refurbishment.  I am not too keen on the light stone that it now has, but hopefull the weather will sort that out in time.  Pinner is a lovely place to love, get out on foot and discover it!

News and Commentary

Harris and Hoole are at least 59 percent owned by Tesco.  The drinks and food in the Pinner Branch are of excellent quality. Now that the free vouchers have ceased to be valid, will they manage to survive. It is my opinion that their food and drink is too expensive. Come on Harris and Hoole please reduce your prices.

Bella Cafe will be closed all of January hopefully back in Febuary, and I sincerley trust without any price hikes.  Ensure the future of existing cafes and shops before filling Tesco's pockets.

Sainsbury in Pinner still has clog ups at busy times on the tills, here is a recent Saturday Picture of people scrumming for the self service tills

Yesterday I observed this mouldy potato in one of their bags.  The staff may be slipping up?

I do wish people would refrain from fly tipping in the River Pinn - Just off Canon Lane seems to be the haunt of bicycles underwater
